Installation overview

The following diagram shows how the Output Generator interacts with other DITA CMS components. Note that the diagram shows default port numbers; they may be different in your deployment.

Output Generator architecture
The steps to install, configure, and start the Output Generator are:
  1. Extract the Output Generator files.
  2. Configure the name of the server that hosts the Output Generator as well as the Output Generator connection port.
  3. Configure the connection to the TEXTML Server and Content Store.
  4. Configure the Java wrapper to identify the Output Generator's Java libraries and maximum Java heap size.
  5. Enable Kerberos authentication, if applicable.
  6. Install and start the Output Generator service.
For most deployments, a single Output Generator server is required to handle output generation requests from all users. You can also install an Output Generator service on a workstation for development and test purposes.

If necessary, you can install multiple Output Generator servers for better performance. See the Planning a DITA CMS Deployment document for more information.
